High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience within a medical environment involving endoscopy procedures.
Knowledge of scopes utilized in procedures.
Position Summary
The Endoscopy Veterinary Assistant plays a critical role in supporting services that require the use of both rigid and flexible endoscopy equipment. This position is responsible for coordinating and assisting with endoscopic procedures for patients in both the small and large animal hospitals, maintaining procedure areas, managing inventory and supplies, and ensuring compliance with quality control and safety standards. This veterinary assistant also serves as a resource for training, troubleshooting and consultation related to endoscopy equipment and techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Successful completion of formal endoscopy training course as assigned by hospital administration within first 6 months of employment.
- Strong technical skills in endoscopy equipment operation and maintenance.
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a willingness to teach and mentor others.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions, ability to deal with problems with concrete variables and draw appropriate/accurate conclusions.
- May sit, stand, stoop bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.
- Wearing all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.
- May need to work for long periods of time with arms extended.

Patient Scheduling and Assistance
a. Collaborate with clinical services, the Anesthesia Coordinator, and other staff as applicable to schedule patients requiring endoscopy or the use of related procedure space/equipment.
b. Assist during procedures ensuring proper and timely set-up, continuity of workflow, patient care, and clean-up.
Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities
Equipment Management/Knowledge
a. Demonstrate proficiency with rigid and flexible endoscopy towers, scopes, and accessories.
b. Perform equipment set-up, cleaning, sterilization, storage, and troubleshooting.
c. Maintain up-t0=o-date knowledge of proper handling techniques to extend equipment lifespan and prevent damage.
Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities
Patient Care
a. Assist to prepare patients for procedures including but not limited to patient transport, sedation/anesthesia coordination, positioning and monitoring.

Inventory and Supply Management
a. Maintain a well-organized stock of supplies and endoscopic accessories.
b. Track and reorder supplies as needed.

Equipment Maintenance
a. Conduct regular quality control checks on all equipment and accessory equipment for functionality, service needs, and expiration dates.
b. Submit and follow up on equipment repair/order requests.
c. Document maintenance, service requests, and repairs in accordance with hospital policies.

Additional Duties As Assigned
a. Provide coverage/support for the operating room, IR suite and procedures rooms as needed.
b. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or clinical leadership to support overall hospital operations.
